Liechtenstein occupies a narrow strip between the Rhine and the Rätikon Alps, just 24 km long and rarely more than 10 km wide. Half the country is flat valley floor, the other half rises steeply to nearly 2,600 m.

The Rhine forms a dead-straight western boundary across an almost contour-free plain, while immediately east the ground pitches up toward the Drei Schwestern and the Grauspitz, the country's high point at 2,599 m. The map splits the state cleanly in two: open lowland along the river, and a dense alpine front behind Vaduz.

How this map was made

Every contour line traces a constant elevation drawn from the public GEDTM30 30 m bare-earth terrain model, extracted with a marching-squares algorithm at a 100 m interval and coloured by height — cool blues in the valley climbing to warm reds on the summits. The satellite base layer and the contours share the same Web Mercator projection, so the lines fall exactly on the ground they describe.
